Why I Became a Doula

Inner Rhythms still by hof8_1.1.1

I have always been someone who finds great joy in supporting others. As a child I was drawn towards helping those in need and aspired to be a part of something bigger. As a mother of three, becoming a Doula was such a natural evolution and rewarding experience. Now I am able to provide support and empower expecting mothers to trust their bodies and learn about the amazing birth process.

Together, we can personalize your prenatal and postpartum plan, drawing on my years of experience as a Doula, massage therapist, and mother. When it’s time for the big day, I will be there to provide emotional and physical support and to remind you to be strong, birth with inner wisdom and with intuition.

Through my own adventures, I’ve honed my natural intuition as a healer and learned to understand what people need by observing, listening, and connecting with them. I personalize every birth, allowing others to feel heard and to impart the knowledge I’ve gained onto others so it can be part of their journey.

"I whole-heartedly believe that birth is sacred and should be treated with love, respect, and knowledge."

What Does a Doula Do?

While every birth and relationship created with an expecting mother is unique, the basic duties as a doula remain the same.

Primarily, the tasks are to be a support system, helper, and advocate for new moms. This is a collaborative relationship where we discuss your specific desires and wishes you might have for the birth in detail. Often a doula’s role will span from providing information and educational support, helping mothers make informed birthing choices, to providing a relaxing massage.

The goal for any doula is to support and accompany the laborer emotionally, physically, and educationally so they can experience a satisfying and safe birth.

What Doesn't a Doula Do?

A doula’s role may sound all-inclusive, but the scope of support they provide is limited. Doulas, first and foremost, do not and should not give medical advice, diagnose conditions, or perform medical tasks. This can be confusing because most doulas are knowledgeable about medical procedures, anatomy, and biology. However, their job is not to make these types of decisions for the client. In addition to these limitations, doulas will not do any of the following:

Ultimately, Inner Rhythms believes a doula’s role is to amplify expecting mothers’ voices along with your entire birthing team. Projecting our own ideals about birth will not be a part of your experience! We look forward to educating and empowering our clients with all the information necessary to make informed decisions that resonate with their lifestyle, beliefs, culture, and wishes.
